MANAGEMENT SUPPORT

Rule 2:

SECURE MANAGEMENT SUPPORT TO MATURE, ASSESS, AND REALIZE IDEAS

Innovation is like a three-way game of Pong between idea-generating employees, decision-making senior executives, and realizing middle management. You want to encourage engagement by getting the C-suite to back your program. And then you need middle management support to legitimize the more specific innovation activities.

But this is often easier said than done. Even though executives and managers almost always say they are pro-innovation, it's often the business, as usual, that gets the upper hand. Read the full article for pointers on how to overcome this, and why management support is required to elaborate ideas and hand them over for implementation.

Make sure to align to the targets of the decision maker(s) you’re pitching to.

COFFEE BREAK WEBINAR

We originally published the “10 Rules” as a series of blog posts and asked our readers to submit their questions. We answered those questions in several short “Coffee Break” videos, which you can watch in the time it takes to enjoy your coffee, tea, or wine (hey, we don't judge your beverage choices!).

The first "Coffee Break" webinar answers questions on Alignment (Rule 1), Management Support (Rule 2), and Sponsorship (Rule 3). Check it out!
